The Fig Tree
'The Fig Tree’, based on the life and work of Sylvia Plath and Ted Hughes, deconstructs selected works from their repertoire and reconstructs them to create an original performance text which highlights their personal struggles with mental health, as well as the sorts of struggles that are typical of many people that struggle with the subject matter.
The topic still seems to be a taboo matter, which is approached with careful precision, yet delivered without caution to challenges the audience to form an opinion on the theme. The piece is performed in an abstract style with essences of postmodern performance elements in order to reflect the fragmentation and deconstruction affiliated with mental health disorders.
